Roxie’s Barkery Opens in Norad Mill
Roxie’s Barkery is the newest addition to the Norad Mill in North Adams. Mckenna Burzimati opened her business on May 28 after working out of her home and distributing to roughly a dozen small businesses in the Berkshires.
Having a display case and storefront was a big sell for Burzimati. “Having a place to sell daily goods and work on orders is a game changer,” she said. “It’s awesome to be able to interact with dogs and see how excited they get when they come in.”
The idea stemmed from one of her three dogs Roxie, a beagle mix. Burzimati is an awardee of the Fall 2021 EforAll Business Accelerator program and was awarded $500 for her business proposal.
Her store features a variety of baked goods for dogs, toys for dogs and cats, signature candles from Bella Sky and other items from small businesses. Burzimati said she was inspired by small businesses taking a chance on her selling products offsite and she wanted to do the same for them.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without them taking the chance on me so I want to do that for them,” she said.
She owes the brick and mortar success to Moresi and Associates Owner Dave Moresi. “This wouldn’t have happened without him.”
Burzimati joins over 30 other businesses in the complex that was revived and re-opened in 2019. It’s the oldest mill complex in North Adams that hasn’t had its exterior significantly altered. It was built in the 1800s to produce woolen textiles.
